Jonathan R. Danoff, MD is a board certified, fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement surgery. He is skilled in minimally invasive surgery, as well as advanced techniques in direct anterior total hip replacement, partial and total knee replacement, and managing complications of failed or painful hip and knee replacements.
Should an operation be indicated, Dr. Danoff may employ some of the latest and most advanced techniques in robotic surgery to restore joint mobility while striving to seek the best outcome for patients. He is Chief of the Adult Joint Reconstruction Center at North Shore University Hospital, Northwell Health where he supervises a highly skilled and talented group of joint replacement surgeons. He also leads both the Outpatient Joint Reconstruction Program and the Advanced Arthroplasty Center at North Shore University Hospital. As the Associate Medical Director of the Schwartz Ambulatory Surgery Center, he created and built the first outpatient joint replacement program on Long Island. Dr. Danoff has a research interest in outpatient joint replacement, rapid recovery protocols and multimodal pain regimens to decrease postoperative pain.
A native of Long Island, Dr. Danoff graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Sciences with a degree in biomedical engineering. He received his doctor of medicine degree from Penn State College of Medicine and completed his orthopedic residency at Columbia University in New York City. He also completed the Harrison L. McLaughlin Fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma Research at the Trauma Training Center at Columbia University Medical Center as part of a combined residency/research training program. Dr. Danoff completed his fellowship in adult reconstructive surgery at the renowned Rothman Institute in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Danoff is a widely published physician-scientist, who is a dedicated educator and clinician. He is a Director of Orthopedic Research as well as the Director of Arthroplasty Research at the Northwell Health Orthopaedic Institute. A serial inventor, he holds a US patent for a novel orthopedic hip implant with 4 additional patents pending, and has a passion for orthopedic research having published over 100 scientific articles, book chapters, editorials, and surgical instructional videos on a range of orthopedic topics and he has edited a textbook on the diagnosis and management of periprosthetic joint infections. Dr. Danoff has been an invited presenter on a variety of topics in orthopedic surgery at local, national, and international orthopedic meetings. He has earned multiple accolades for his academic accomplishments including being honored with the Frank E. Stinchfield, M.D. Award for Excellence in Orthopedic Surgery for his research contributions. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS).
